Buprenorphine Detoxification

Buprenorphine is a synthetic medication which contains opiate-like qualities, allowing the addict to slowly decrease the need for opiate-based drugs, such as OxyCotin, morphine, heroin, Percocet, and Vicodin. Generally, an addict withdrawing from opiate-based drugs would encounter three to six days of excruciating muscle spasms, sweating, cramping, and diarrhea, in addition to other symptoms. Because of the low levels of opiates found in buprenorphine, the addict is weaned from the addiction, and the drug allows the addict to skip the unwanted side effects of detoxification. This allows the addict to continue to function in daily life.

In addition, the treatment can be much less stigmatizing than traditional withdrawal methods, as it can be done in the privacy of the home or with trips to the doctors office. This also allows for minimal interruption into the addict's life.
